nailgirls at London Fashion Week Spring/ Summer ’12

What a season!!!

We had the pleasure of being part of the backstage team at a number of shows this season. Jo and I also attended. Jo organising the pro team making sure that each and every model was perfectly painted and I chatting to the press that were backstage about the show about the inspiration that led us to paint the particular colours.  I also enjoyed sharing all the interesting things we have been up to over the last season and what was coming up next for us.

Last season Jo had just had her little daughter Georgia May so did not attend the shows. It was nice to have my sister back with me. Please dont throw up but it is true! For each show we did no soak manis and or pedis (shape, buff, full cuticle work and paint).

Pringle of Scotland, Monday 18th September Call time- 08.00 Show time- 11.00

This was Alistair Carr’s first full collection for Pringle. He delved into the archives and breathed new life into the almost 200 year old company that is famous for its knits.Alistair’s muse Tilda Swinton, Rosario Dawson and jeweller Husam el Odeh where all in the audience. We painted nailgirls super base  ridge filling base coat.
Then added 2 coats of nailgirls beige#6 a Translucent milky beige nail colour, perfect for layering, French and natural nails. It has a high gloss finish and suits all skin tones. We topped it off with nailgirls Super Finish. A quick drying top coat with a wet look shine. Dries up to 4 coats of colour in under 3 minutes with a glossy finish. Helps create a flawless polish even at home as it smoothes out any imperfections and smudges that may have occurred during the colour application. Prevents yellowing as it contains a UV inhibitor. And finally we added nailgirls cuticle conditioner With sweet almond oil and ginseng root. It hydrates, moisturises and soothes your cuticles and nails. Vitamin E cuticle oil helps to soften and condition damaged cuticles. Prevents drying and cracking, and eliminates hang nails and speeds nail growth. Use as often as possible, particularly at bedtime. Apply once a day for more manageable, healthy cuticles.

Mary Katrantzou, Tuesday 20th September Call time- 06.30 Show time- 09.00

Man vs. nature the latest collection form Mary. A softer more sensuos collection than the formal architectural shapes of previous collections. As usual prints were a plenty but this time blown up to a larger than life scale feathers and flowers. Fabrics had a sheen to them that was inspired by the crushed-car sculptures of John Chamberlain. Prints were also made up of metal objects like cans and car parts. We painted nailgirls super base. Then added 2 coats of nailgirls pink#19 a sheer chiffon pink with a silver sparkle. We topped it off with nailgirls Super Finish. And finally we added nailgirls cuticle conditioner With sweet almond oil and ginseng root.

Designers Remix by Charlotte Eskildsen, Tuesday 20th September Call time- 09.30 Presentation time- 11.00

As usual a strong directional collection bringing abstract minimalism and elegance together to create avant-garde modern classics. With clever 3D tailoring as well as draping and cutting she has an architectural approach to her design. We painted nailgirls super base. Then added 2 coats of nailgirls silver #2 A sparkling bright silver. This glittery polish is loaded with bright silver sparkle for a modern fashionista look. We topped it off with nailgirls Super Finish. And finally we added nailgirls cuticle conditioner With sweet almond oil and ginseng root.

Phew, what a Fashion Week nailgirls had! We were honoured to do so many shows and be a part of such an exciting season in London. Thanks to all involved, especially our hardworking nailgirls team. Read on for our trend report and check out our gallery for full pictures.

THE S/S11 nailgirls trends…

Matte Finish – Body Amr, Simone Rocha

Nail Art – Ashish (Americana), Kinder Aggugini (African Tribal)

Mannequin Nude – Hannah Marshall, Body Amr, Erdem

Jelly Nails – Felicity Brown, Antipodium

Peptobismol Pink – Ashish, Bryce Aime

Glitter- Holly Fulton

Who we worked with…

We sponsored celebrity manicurist Jenny Longworth, providing her with nailgirls products and our pro team of nailgirls. We also worked alongside Pat McGrath for a second season on the Kinder Aggugini and alongside Alex Box on the Hannah Marshall show.

What we used…

We at nailgirls are always encouraging our clients to experiment with colour and to mix their own colour collections using our products. This SS11 we mixed colours for a number of shows backstage, to get the perfect hues to match the runway looks.

-Felder and Felder

2/3 nailgirls Blue #5 + 1/3 nailgirls Blue #6 + nailgirls matte finish (topcoat) = deep indigo blue

-Hannah Marshall

nailgirls Beige #4

We created mannequin nude flesh tones for a clean, natural look.

-Body Amr

Inspiration was Undone Glam, the day after the night before. The nails were short and square using foundation nude shade Beige #4 with our matte finish topcoat, giving a totally matte, mannequin colour.

-Bryce Aime

Heavily influenced by Asia, the clothes were cotton candy shades, that followed through to the makeup on the cheeks and colour on the nails. We used two coats of nailgirls Pink#3, with nailgirls superfinish for a wet look.

-Kinder Aggugini

Supped-up glam androgyny! It was all about the detail, so we used nailgirls Beige #6 on the hands and Brown #2 on the feet. A stripe of bright White #1 down the centre of each toe emulated the tribal influences of the collection.

-Holly Fulton

Palm Spring glamour, with big hair and dramatic eyes and false nails! Kept long and almond shaped, Jenny Longworth used nailgirls Gold #1 and Silver #2 on the base, before dipping them into nailgirls nail glitter and topping them off with nailgirls super finish high gloss top coat.

-Erdem

nailgirls Beige #1, finished with nailgirls super finish top coat and an iridescent powder, to give a UV effect.

-Antipodium

1 part nailgirls Red #4 + 2 parts nailgirls super finish made a jellied effect berry colour to match the berry stained lips of the show.

-Fashion East – Simone Rocha

It was a matte finish all the way to complement the natural fabrication yet complex construction of the collection. nailgirls matte finish worn without a nail colour gave the nails an ultra modern look.

-Fashion East – Felicity Brown

1/3 Coral #2 + 2/3 super finish. One coat of this nail colour gave the nails a playful, jellified look, which worked well with this fun, ruffled collection.

-Ashish

All American! Cow girl prints, fringing, sequins and baked bean prints adorned this collection and the nails simply had to follow suit! An elixir of nailgirls Pink #7 and Pink #3 produced the perfect peptobismol pink with hand drawn cow print nail art using White #1 and Black #1. So much fun!
